With all of the Star Wars hype going on for the release of the new film, I figured I would throw in my two cents… As you all know, I am a Star Wars nut and have been obsessed with Lucas and his gang of swashbuckling space renegades since birth… Sounds crazy, but there is some sort of cosmic connection and I feel it in my bones! Proof, you say… How about the fact that Star Wars is the first thing I can remember. How about the fact that Star Wars defined my childhood. How about the fact that THE FIRST PUBLISHED ARTICLE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD THAT ANNOUNCED MARK HAMILL WOULD PLAY LUKE STARKILLER was on the day I was born! That’s right, Luke Starkiller (or Skywalker to his friends) and Mike Cotter – Birth Announcement – April 14, 1976! The cosmic karma of Star Wars and this little known “Luke” fact has often eased the concern I had in my mind over the fact that this was also the day that the Titanic hit an iceberg and Abraham Lincoln was shot in Ford’s Theater. Way to go Lucas, April 14th needed a little good to equal out the historic past…
CHECK OUT THE LUKE SKYWALKER BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT:
(First shot of Indiana Jones as well…)
The April 14th stuff is most certainly interesting to me personally as you might imagine…
WHAT CAN I TELL YOU THAT MIGHT BE INTERESTING TO YOU???
How about a collecting tip that I have never really seen talked about anywhere! That’s right – a true first (no pun intended)… at least I think it might be a first… don’t shoot me if someone proves me wrong, it is hard to imagine that anything new could be discovered about The Star Wars.
WHAT MAJOR PUBLICATION WAS THE FIRST TO MENTION STAR WARS IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM?
In discovering this, haven’t we really recognized the GENESIS of everything that Star Wars has become?
Shouldn’t every single collector of books, magazines, paper and/or Star Wars want one?
February, 1975 Esquire Magazine is the ANSWER my friends!
Months before Hamill was cast as Luke “Starkiller”…
Before we even knew about Han Solo or Harrison Ford for that matter…
L.M. KIT CARSON WROTE A BRILLIANT ARTICLE ABOUT THE NEW GENERATION IN HOLLYWOOD
“It’s Here! Hollywood’s Ninth Era!” was the title
The article covers Producers, Directors, Writers and Stars of the new wave in Hollywood. As part of the article, Carson talks with George Lucas. Lucas, fresh off the unexpected success of American Graffiti tells Carson that The Star Wars is “the first multimillion-dollar Flash Gordon kind of movie with The Magnificent Seven thrown in. But I’m also sneaking in a bit of Triumph of the Will, just so a point is made.”
I THINK HE MADE HIS POINT!
